Internet may be define as a publicly accessible computer network. In other words, I define Internet as a big computer network where you can share and integrate information all over the world. In many ways the Internet has changed our way of life. Never before have we had instant access to so much information. You can find out just about anything you need to know on any subject almost immediately. I will talk you about the internet for personal activities, education and business.



Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn designed the Internet for the United States’ military, with the purpose to connect many networks. They finished the design in the early 1970s and the Internet started working in 1983. The types of network connected to it, gradually increased. These were mostly government and university networks in the early days. But The Internet really started to catch on when the World Wide Web arrived.

WWW: Stands for "World Wide Web." It is important to know that this is not a synonym for the Internet.

URL: Stands for "Uniform Resource Locator." A URL is the address of a specific Web site or file on the Internet.

WEB BROWSER: Often just called a "browser," is the program people use to access the World Wide Web.

IP ADDRESS: Is an identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network.

TCP/IP: (Stands for "Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol." The purpose was to allow computers to communicate over long distance networks.

MAC ADDRESS: Is a hardware identification number that uniquely identifies each device on a network.


Personal Activities

The following information are some activities that people do on the internet for personal purpose. 

  • Send or read email
  • Search for a map or driving directions
  • Visit social networking sites
  • Look for info on a hobby or interest
  • Buy and sell products
  • Video calls
  • Check the weather
  • Look for health/medical info
  • Get travel info
  • Get news
  • Watch a video clip or listen to an audio clip
  • Look for "how to do it yourself," or repair information
  • Look up phone number or address
  • Do any banking online, pay bills, transfer 
  • Look online for info about a job
  • Download files such as games, videos, pictures, programs, music
  • Look for info about a place to live
  • Play online games
  • Visit an adult website



Education

Currently, educational activities are common on the Internet, in simple words, this is to study remotely. This concept is known as E-learning or Webinars. Many of the educational institutions have e-learning platforms, and the students can take classes online.
 
Business
Internet has many resources which allow to do negotiations or improve your current business (e-business or e-marketing). For example: 
  • Web page design
  • Email marketing 
  • CRM 
  • VoIP 
  • Video Email
  • Facebook business page
  • Twitter
  • Google analytics
  • Google+
  • YouTube

In conclusion, the internet allows us to communicate faster and more effective now compare to some years ago. The internet allow us to be anywhere in the world and be able to do the same daily activities online. Today many people are studying from home and they are obtaining their college or university degrees that allow them to have better job opportunities. Finally, many people are working from their homes or remote places and getting their work done.
